ENVIRONMENTAL AND SAFETY PROGRAM

TheAccidents Boardare recognizesundesirable, unplanned occurrences that accidents that occur in schools, on school grounds or school buses may result in significanttragic consequences—bodily harm and/or death,harm, loss of instructionalwork or workschool time, property damage, and/or legal action.action, and even fatality. It isshall be the Board's position that most accidents are preventable. It is the intentpolicy of the Board to preventguard or minimizeagainst such occurrences throughby antaking environmental and safety program that includesreasonable precautions and practices to protect the safety of all students, employeesemployees, visitors and others present on school property or at school-sponsored events.

School unit personnel shall participate in safety-related in-service trainings as required by federal or state laws and/or regulations or by Board policy, and shall follow recommended safety practices and procedures in carrying out their job responsibilities.

The practice of safety shallis bealso considereda part of the instructional plan of the schoolsdistrict bythrough virtueits ofeducational programs. The educational programs will include instruction in traffic and pedestrian safety, driverbicycle education,safety, fire prevention, emergency procedures, etc., appropriately geared to students at different grade levels.

The Superintendent/designee shall be responsible for the development and implementation of the School Department's environmental and safety program, including traffic planning, student safety instruction, staff training, accident reporting, fire prevention, hazard reduction, and emergency procedures.

Each building administrator shall be responsible for the supervision of a safety program for his/hertheir school.school, and the Superintendent shall have overall responsibility for the safety program. General areas of emphasis shall include, but not be limited to in-service training, accident record-keeping, plant inspection, driver and vehicle safety programs, fire prevention, school site selection, and emergency procedures and traffic safety problems relevant to students, employees and the community.
