ENVIRONMENTAL AND SAFETY PROGRAM

The Board recognizes that accidents that occur in schools, on school grounds or school buses may result in significant bodily harm and/or death, loss of instructional or work time, property damage, and/or legal action. It is the Board's position that most accidents are preventable. It is the intent of the Board to prevent or minimize such occurrences through an environmental and safety program that includes precautions and practices to protect the safety of students, employees and others present on school property or at school-sponsored events.

The practice of safety shall be considered part of the instructional plan of the schools by virtue of educational programs in traffic and pedestrian safety, driver education, fire prevention, emergency procedures, etc., appropriately geared to students at different grade levels.

The Superintendent/designee shall be responsible for the development and implementation of the School Department's environmental and safety program, including traffic planning, student safety instruction, staff training, accident reporting, fire prevention, hazard reduction, and emergency procedures.

Each building administrator shall be responsible for the supervision of a safety program for his/her school.
