SAFETYINSURANCE PROGRAMPROGRAM/RISK MANAGEMENT 

AccidentsRegional areSchool undesirable,Unit unplanned1 occurrenceswill thatmaintain mayinsurance result in tragic consequences—bodily harm, loss of work or school time, property damage, legal action, and even fatality. It shall be the policy of the Board to guard against such occurrences by taking reasonable precautionscoverage to protect the safetyproperty and financial resources of allthe students,school employees, visitorssystem and othersto presentprotect onemployees schooland property or at school-sponsored events.

School unit personnel shall participate in safety-related in-service trainings as required by federal or state laws and/or regulations or by Board policy,members andfrom shallpersonal followloss recommendedthat safetyis practicesthe andresult procedures in carrying outof their jobdischarging of their Board responsibilities.

The Superintendent/designee will be responsible for establishing a district-wide safety committee. This committee will meet at least annually or more as needed to discuss safety concerns, make recommendations for improvement in facilities and practices, and identify needs for additional training.

While the Superintendent shall have overall responsibility for the safety program, each building administrator shall be responsible for the implementationdeveloping and supervisionimplementing a risk management program to:

  1.  Identify and evaluate the school system’s and Board members’ exposure to loss;
  1. Make recommendations concerning purchase of ainsurance safety program for their school. Areas of emphasis shall include,(including but not be limited to, in-service training, including training specific to dutiesworkers incompensation, the employee’s job description; accident record-keeping; plant inspection; driverproperty and vehicle safety programs; fire prevention; school site selection;casualty and emergencyliability insurance);
  1. Administer procedures andto trafficreduce safetyrisk problemsof relevantfinancial loss, damage to students,property employeesand injury to employees, students and the community.

This policy does not apply to employee benefits such as health or disability insurance, which are negotiated or approved by the district through its educational programs. To increase the student awareness of safety, The educational programs will include grade-level appropriate instruction in traffic and pedestrian safety, bicycle safety, fire prevention, emergency procedures.
